It launched in the States almost three weeks ago, but iPad 2 fever continues unabated, as hundreds of people desperately queue outside Apple stores each morning. And it’s not just the US and UK that are affected; it’s the same situation the world over.
Looking online, the wait time from the Apple Store in France, Germany, Spain, Australia, the UK and North America is identical, namely 3-4 weeks. Clearly Apple is trying to spread the misery evenly. Luxury misery, that’d be. There are far worse things than having to live without an iPad 2 for a few weeks.
Apple has been characteristically coy about sales and production figures thus far, so it’s not clear how many units have been sold, or when it expects to be able to meet demand.
It’s also unclear if Apple anticipated such a feeding frenzy. In any case, it’s unlikely to harm demand. And it’s not like there’s much in the way of iPad 2 alternatives at the moment either. Unless you’re in the States and fancy forking out extra for a Motorola Atrix.
If only HTC, BlackBerry, LG, Toshiba et al had been a little quicker off the mark... Actually - who am I kidding? - it probably wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference.
