Are Gmail and Googlemail interchangeable?

If you have a Gmail account, can it end with the Gmail or Googlemail domain? Are they both valid/the same?

They should both work, the house number analogy isn't really accurate. If you're going to use it, imagine it as having your mail forwarded from gmail to googlemail, or vice versa.

You can have all sorts of aliases for sending and receiving email addresses, it just depends what the provider allows. Also I just sent an email to my gmail address using both suffixes and they were both received!

No, I do not think so. Every letter counts! ;)
Fastmail was temporarily owned by Opera. But, now that Opera ditched the biz, operamail.com accounts STILL have to use [email protected] - not @fastmail.com...

They are addresses. You cannot just change your house number from 7 to 8 because you prefer even numbers. If your MS account is @live.com then @hotmail.com won't do, even though both are assigned by MS

Oh, thanks for the correction. These days I avoid Google as much as I can. So, I'm not up to date !

Our friend northlondon01 is right.

I used to work in tech support, and as far as customer verification was concerned, we accepted that gmail and googlemail were "interchangeable".

Are we talking about the same thing here? IF my address is [email protected], and somebody sends me an email to [email protected] ... you're saying I will get that email at [email protected]??? That is what the OP is asking isn't it? And a couple of years ago that was not the case. In fact, a couple of years ago many countries didn't even have gmail addies... only googlemail...

Yeah exactly that.
It's been the case for quite a while, thought it was more than two years to be honest, they sent out emails iirc.

Both work, I've been using GMail for years. Pondlife's correct, they did email people about gmail/googlemail quite a while ago. They gave you the option to switch from googlemail to gmail, but if people do email the wrong one, you'll still get your email.

Ah, right... Makes sense, though - why make things hard on the NSA
