The concept of a gold iPhone 5S has grown on us a lot now that we know it won't be a gaudy, bling-tastic shade of gold but rather a more reserved champagny hue.
And just to keep us all in the loop, a few pics have leaked from Japanese site ASCII.jp showing what it says is the finished gold iPhone 5S chassis, nestled between existing black and white iPhone models.
In fact, if you didn't know a gold-coloured iPhone was on its way, you probably wouldn't reach the conclusion based on this pic alone. “Champagne” is probably a more accurate description, though "gold" carries that bit more prestige, which is probably why it gets the nod.
Of course, the introduction of a third option alongside the traditional black and white isn't the end of Apple's efforts to embrace a world of colour with the iPhone.
Launching alongside the iPhone 5S on September 10 will be the more affordable plastic-bodied iPhone 5C (well, nearly everyone things so, anyway, though Apple still hasn't said a word on the subject), and it's expected to come in all sorts of different shades, including yellow, green, blue and red alongside the traditional white and black.
Interestingly, the latest images leaked on Weibo – among the first to show the front of the iPhone 5C, in this case the blue model – suggest that only the back and sides of Apple's budget handset will be in colour, with the front panel remaining white no matter which colour option you go for.
We'll keep our ear to the ground for further updates.
