Looking for recommendations for a friend. Text, email, voicecalls. Screensize at least 2.2in, but NO touchscreen. Good keypad (qwerty or 3x4)...

Last feature phone I owned was a Tocco Ultra Edition (Samsung S8300), it's a fantastic phone IMO. Apps moved me over to the darkside though ;).

Treab, it's not a bad question, I know lots of people who couldn't give two sh*ts about mobile data or apps :p.

hay what feature is most important... whos it for price... that would make it a good question :p

There are generally good phones, like if someone asked what's a good smartphone, I could give them a list of my overall top ten. Also feature phones all tend to be cheap nowadays. There aren't many, if any, high end feature phones like the Tocco Ultra used to be, for example.

ahh yes but whats a feature phone these days?

a smartphone is a feature phone... a camera phone is a feature phone ;)

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 19:11

Feature phone is any phone running an OS specific to that phone, well that's what I define a feature phone as. Also known as a dumbphone, colloquially.

debate with me then would symbian phones could in your theory??

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 19:18

Symbian phones are smartphones IMO. Multiple manufacturers have used the OS and it's run on more than one device. iOS is the anomaly that proves the rule, as only apple devices run the OS but it's still called a smartphone operating system :).

JanSt / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 19:44

Sorry, 2nd half of question got eaten o_O

Calls, text, email. No touchscreen. Good battery life and min 2.2in screen.

Treab  Sep. 21, 2011 at 19:55

what sort of qwerty? slider? blackberry type? cost?

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 20:13

Until next year when it becomes open source, Bada, in my eyes, despite being an awesome operating system, is only used, currently, on feature phones.

Jan, wow that's specific, can I ask why you're so interested in feature phones all of a sudden :p?

Surely the blackberry is a smartphone, it NEEDS data to function properly. Though I should probably look for some alternative rather than d
just "dissing", what you came up with :p.

Treab  Sep. 21, 2011 at 20:30

Calls, text, email.

blackberry email client :p diss all you want matty but we both know I RULE :p

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 20:41

Samsung U800 and the Samsung D900i, both cracking feature phones. They'll both be about 50 quid nowadays too. BlackBerrys are smartphones :p

Treab  Sep. 21, 2011 at 20:44

turn of the mobile internet and it becomes ... just a phone :p

it maybe smarter than you ;) but jan the banker doesnt have to use it for that :D

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 20:53

By that logic, sod it get a Galaxy S2, it's the best phone in the world by a long way at the moment, if you turn the data off it's just a feature phone ;)....hmmm

Treab  Sep. 21, 2011 at 20:54

but that has a touchscreen please read jan the bankers needs and wants ;)

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 21:01

Point still stands :p, a smartphone with the data turned off, is NOT a feature phone haha :D

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 21:01

I'm sticking with the U800, simply as it has HSDPA (and a front camera), but the D900i doesn't. Only thing it misses out on is screen size....by 0.2", not exactly the end of the world :p

Treab  Sep. 21, 2011 at 21:07

a smartphone IS by definition a feature phone :p

feature = A distinctive attribute or aspect of something.

a camera on a phone is a feature :p

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 21, 2011 at 21:10

Ok, replace all mention of "feature", in this thread, with "dumb", which is the colloquial, but American coined, term for a non-smartphone :p
