We’ve been writing about the HTC One M8 Eye for what feels like forever, but it turns out – as we repeatedly suggested – we didn’t know the full story; this thing isn’t simply an HTC One M8 with a 13MP rear camera.
Turns out a 13MP module will sit on the front and back, and we’re now calling the phone the HTC Desire Eye. Interesting.
A series of tweets from @HTCFamily_RU has outed the HTC Desire Eye with red and blue trim, the red in particular being white elsewhere, while the blue seems to be milky blue on the front and darker blue on the back.
So, plenty to talk about. First of all, you can forget about the front-facing BoomSound stereo speakers found on the One M8; above the HTC Desire Eye’s display we have a 13MP front camera and flash. The only phone that can match that megapixel count, incidentally, is the Oppo N1, though it has a gimmicky swivel camera – not two separate modules.
A further tweet lists a number of HTC Desire Eye camera features, including Auto-selfie, Split capture, Crop-me in, Face tracking, Ground tracking, Live make up, Instant shot, and Face confusion. Some of those are self explanatory; others, not so much.
Rumoured HTC Desire Eye specs put the phone at the high end, including a 5.2in 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB internal storage. Ok, so it’s not QHD, and it doesn’t have a QS805 chipset with 3GB of RAM, but we’re sure it’ll be more than capable.
Interestingly, the HTC Desire Eye might come with IPX7 certification for protection against dust and water, a first for a high-end HTC phone.
Suddenly this thing is sounding a lot more interesting. Full HTC Desire Eye story on Wednesday at Double Exposure. And heck, I dare say there’ll be yet more rumour action before then.
