Now, we didn't see this one coming. Maybe we would have had we researched it, but imagine the surprise this morning when we learned that Google Chrome for iOS had landed. Yep. Google. Chrome. On an Apple product.
Why the surprise? Well, first of all, Apple and Google are hardly friends these days. Just look at the countless tit-for-tat courtcases going through the mill at the moment.
Not just that but Chrome is likely to become the default Android browser too in the future (it's already available for download for Ice Cream Sandwich devices - and very nice it is too). Plus, look at how Apple has moved away from Google's Maps and brought that in-house.
So, we'd have expected Google to not even have bothered trying its luck. Or at the very least, for Apple to have refused entry to the App Store, invoking the "it duplicates the function of an iOS app" excuse, which it blatantly does.
We've already fallen in love with the Chrome browser... synced bookmarks and histories, incognito mode and so forth. Sadly, no Flash. But that was hardly to be expected on an iDevice. And we can't help feeling pages load ridiculously faster.
Check it out and let us know what you think.
