Google is no stranger to "wearable tech", what with Google Glass, the augmented reality thingy what goes on your head.
But the fun and games won’t stop there, according to sources, with Google tipped to launch a Gem Nexus smartwatch on Halloween.
That’s the story over on 9to5google, and while “details are slim”, we’re told to expect an emphasis on Google Now functionality, with the tiles and the traffic and the weather and what have you.
The Google Gem Nexus smartwatch launch will presumably go down alongside that of the Google Nexus 5, Asus-built Google Nexus 10, and KitKat Android 4.4.
The 9to5google source reckons the launch will happen “sooner rather than later”, though we’ve previously been told October 31.
Earlier in the month, Android Police guy Artem Russakovskii wrote on Google+: “Google will announce a Nexus watch, codenamed Gem, likely together with the KitKat announcement. The date I have, which, once again, is about a month old, is also October 31st.”
Samsung recently announced its Galaxy Gear smartwatch, essentially a “companion” device for the new Note range. Meanwhile, Apple is said to be busy beavering away on the iWatch, though it doesn’t appear to be in any rush to get the thing on shelves, perhaps preferring to learn from the mistakes of others.
