Google Nexus 4 shipping delayed till 2013 in US

Google Nexus 4 shipping delayed till 2013 in USAh, the Google Nexus 4. It sold out in little more than 30 minutes when it first hit virtual shelves two-and-a-bit weeks ago, and we’re still waiting for an update in the UK.

In the US, however, the Google Nexus 4 is again available to order, but chances are you’ll have to wait till 2013 for delivery.

I cheekily flew over to Google Play’s US store via anonymous proxy, and confirmed the ludicrous shipping times.

If you fancy the 16GB Google Nexus 4 for $349, you’ll have to wait 4-5 weeks, so it might be delivered before the end of the year. Maybe.

Worse still, the shipping time given for the 8GB Google Nexus 4 at $299 is a whopping 8-9 weeks. Apple, eat your heart out. Nine weeks from now takes us to January 31.

As I say, that’s the story in the US. Looking at Google Play’s UK store, the Nexus 4 is still very much “SOLD OUT”, and all Google will say is: “We are out of inventory. Please check back soon.”

A couple of days ago I was saying that a number of Google Nexus 4 owners report a strange buzzing sound emanating from the earpiece, so maybe the lack of stock is a blessing in disguise.

By Jan 31st (presumably later here in the UK), the N4 will have more serious competition from CES and (assuming they leak a few weeks before, like every other year) MWC handsets. I guess the only big name, Android device we won't have seen by then is the SGS4.

My thoughts exactly. I think they priced this one a bit too low for it to work.

I think LG are strangling Google's supply, too. Either that or Google are pretending to have less stock than they really do, so they don't have to sell so many subsidised handsets. It seems the only people who managed to get their hands on an N4 are reviewers, journalists and those willing to pay over the odds from other sources (O2, here in the UK, T-Mobile over in the US).

I don't see much coming out at any of those that would threaten the N4 though..

Arent apple also having supply problems from LG? It could be that LG are just really struggling with producing screens?

Certainly possible, one of the components that lg make themselves.
Or just out of practice of making high volume devices.

Wonder if Google regret involving them now.
