People in tin hats are rightly dubious about “accidental” smarphone leaks, and here I’m allying myself with the crazy crew and demanding cynically with a raise of the eyebrows: “Really? Really?”
Some guy was using what appears to be a Google Nexus 6 on a train, and someone just happened – just happened – to be on hand to surreptitiously take a picture of it. Wow, what luck!
Quite frankly, this stinks of the same unofficial marketing tactic that saw the then-imminent Google Nexus 5 left unattended in a bar one year ago. The presumed Google employee went to the toilet and someone thought: ‘WAIT! That’s the yet-to-be-announced Google Nexus 5! MUST TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE WITH THE WORLD!’
Here we’re seeing a Google employee on a train, and he’s completely oblivious to the sneaky photographer taking pictures of what’s essentially a top-secret device. From TWO ANGLES (we’re clearly seeing the left and right of the phone). Oblivious. Honest.
Again, Google guy just happened to be on the same train, same carriage, hell, STANDING BESIDE someone who realised: ‘THAT’S THE GOOGLE NEXUS 6!’ Heck, in one pic, the phone almost appears to be TILTED TOWARDS THE CAMERA.
Sweet mother of all things beautiful. I guess it’s cheaper than making, like, an actual teaser video. Quick couple of pictures; anonymous tip; wham, bam, thank you ma’am, the internet is awash with Google Nexus 6 advertising.
So, if you were thinking of buying an iPhone 6 or a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, or indeed any other high-end device, Google would really appreciate if you could wait a few weeks and consider the Nexus 6. Y’know, unofficially. Nothing to see here.
