Google set to crank it to 11

Google set to crank it to 11Google has been firing out invites for a mysterious “special event” taking place in Los Angeles this Wednesday, November 16.

There’s little to go on from the invite, and we were expecting a brief lull after the Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung Galaxy Nexus reveal, but Google promises to crank it to 11.

If you don’t get the reference, hang your head in shame then go watch This Is Spinal Tap, the excellent mockumentary about a struggling – and utterly moronic – British metal band.

Engadget notes that the email invite came from Nigel Tufnel, Christopher Guest’s character in the film. Yesterday, 11/11/11, was Nigel Tufnel day.

So what the hell can we expect? Well, it could be Google’s @Home thingy, a bit like Apple’s AirPlay, allowing you to connect Android devices to home speakers and what have you. It was talked about back at Google's I/O event in May.

Or perhaps Google Music. Either of those would make sense, given the “11” reference.

If you’re not lucky enough to be attending in LA, you can watch the action unfold live at http://www.youtube.com/android.
