Yes it's pointless and childish, but c'mon, who isn't secretly a fan of huge oversized sweets? And when their appearance means a new version of Android is incoming, even better.
We're talking, of course, about Google's time-honoured practice of unveiling a new statue on its front lawn in honour of each new sweet-toothed addition to the Android family tree.
And with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean set to be unveiled at Google's I/O conference this week, sure enough a new statue has popped up on the Mountain View lawn, with the visual evidence having been posted on the Google Developers page on Google+.
The statue doesn't consist of just a single bean, either, but rather a whole tub that's been knocked over to spill its multicoloured tasty contents on the grass. Sounds like a fairly accurate portrayal of Android fragmentation when you think about it.
There's something just a little bit crazy about one of the biggest companies on the planet playing Pimp My Snack on its own front lawn, but it's a bit of harmless fun and implies that the company doesn't take itself all that seriously.
You only have to look around at the seemingly endless stream of lawsuits zinging about the mobile industry these days for that idyllic bubble to burst, but hey, it's nice to pretend sometimes.
