Google updates Maps for Android

Google updates Maps for AndroidIf you're an eager beaver Android user, you may be driven to distraction waiting for you Ice Cream Sandwich update to arrive. But at least you have something new to show off - Google Maps has had an upgrade.

We received it last night - though can't really say we were overjoyed. It's hardly a major enhancement. In fact, you'll notice very little difference.

If you have a high resolution screen, you'll see that the map tiles look a little sharper and there are new options for what Google calls 'mass transit directions' though this appears, from our own testing, to be something for the US market.

Finally, there is a new look to the Navigation home screen which is now all in black and looks very sleek. The down side? Yep, of course there is one - that bit is only for Ice Cream Sandwich customers.

So if you haven't got your update yet, you'll be waiting for that one to kick in for goodness knows how long. Bah!

Check it out on Google Play.

US mass transit = car. 8)
Not a very useful feature, if it's for US.

How were we all living before the daily updates of one or the other app?
Every couple of days I check for the PR1.2 update for the N9, and I kid you not: every time I have to update the software updater first o_O

I use my Acer Liquid about once per week, and everytime I start it ALL 15 or so apps I have on it need an update!
Even trusty 'oldtimers' such as Opera Mini get cr*ppier while they enjoy more and more frequent updates since they landed on iOS and Android...

Most of updates are now new features, but rather bug fixes. As with all bugs they target very small group of end users. Most of the time update is useless.
