On a serious note: it still says 'Mod' beside my 'name', but I do not know if Mobot will
return in its full snarky glory.

Been lurking but its a little sad the speed this site appears to have collapsed...

JanSt / MOD  Sep. 4, 2015 at 23:08

Yeah... I blame Lewis, too. And Matt. And shuw...oh, scratch that.
We can start a Kickstarter campaign to save/buy mobot? :p

shuwaz  Sep. 4, 2015 at 23:44

i may just start off my own site and call it mobotog (old guard). so we can have a good old tech rant on their.

Treab  Sep. 5, 2015 at 08:18

What i don't get is if they are closing this down for good why are the forums remaining... would of expected these to be shut down relatively quickly...

and i remember when mobot was one of the most popular tech blogs :(

CTPAHHIK  Sep. 5, 2015 at 09:39

Decided to take a quick peek after 8 month and everyone is still here and on the very first thread.
Title doesn't seem very good though. How's everyone doing? Any plans for the future of Mobot?

shuwaz  Sep. 5, 2015 at 10:26

Well I might start my own site. Haa haa haa!
(Evil laugh).

You should. Plenty of free forum platforms/hosts.
I offered to 'lease' mobot... no reply :p

Honestly Jan i wouldn't want you to tarnish the name of mobot either ;)

Just thought I'd have a look on what I thought was the now dead Mobot, and I stumble across this gem of a thread. How's everyone doing :)? It's sad that Mobot came to such an end. Aa with Jan, although it says "Mod" next to my name, I have no Mod powers and I wasn't informed that the blog part of Mobot was going to be killed off...

At last the final member of the gang has turned up. Now we can form... THE A-TEAM!!!

Queue the theme music!

So, lads, in true Mobot fashion, what phones is everyone using these days? And views on the iPhone 6S announcement today?

Treab  Sep. 9, 2015 at 23:24

Still on note 3... due for renewal next month and most interested in xperia x5 premium... but cant see it being worth the £££

I'm still using the trusty old Note 2! It is showing its age these days though, it's very slow and definitely cannot be described as being in peak physical condition...

I'm not sure what to replace it with, though. Apparently we might see new Nexus devices at the end of the month, something like an updated Nexus 6 could definitely be a possibility.

Yeah, I suspect the first 4k smartphone may well come with a very large price tag and a very small battery life :p.

Treab  Sep. 10, 2015 at 00:13

Its up for £629 on clove ... the main issue is the lack of decent internet connection on phones these days...

That's not too bad, considering a distinctly 1080p iPhone 6S Plus with enough storage to actually use the phone as your main device will set you back £700. It also depends if that 4k display is actually any good, IIRC the LG G3's 1440p display was pretty poor, beyond its, at the time, very high resolution.

What do you mean by lack of decent internet connection? Slow Wi-Fi or not enough 4G areas?

Three and Virgin still do unlimited data, don't they? I think T-Mobile's unlimited data died with the full EE rebranding.

Treab  Sep. 10, 2015 at 02:06

I know three do i dont think virgin do but its now very expensive for those options from three unfortunately.

I've got a LG G Flex, I just love the big bendy screen and super battery life. I can live with all its other shortcomings.

I also have an ASUS ZenFone 2 bought from Etotalk in China. The phone has developed a screen fault so it's for sale on eBay. If I don't get my price I may just install a custom ROM as there's a very remote chance that will resolve the fault.

I also have a Nokia Lumia 635 as a work phone... It's surprising good.

I'm not impressed by the new iPhone release. The S editions are usually half-assed. But the new iPad is a step in the right direction.

Treab  Sep. 10, 2015 at 07:17

Ahh the g-flex out of interest does the screen really feel like it bends? its always come across as a sort of gimmick to me but would be interesting to try it (i like gimmicks just ask my 32" curved tv lol)
