Not really. Just make sure you read the guides and follow it to the letter.
Obviously be aware of the risks first.

It varies from phone to phone. Rule of thumb: the more popular the device, the better your odds. (Who's gonna spend a lot of time developing a ROM etc for an unpopular device?)
Also: when you research the rooting procedure for your device, check if the process can be as easily reversed - not always the case. Mostly, yes. But not always. And read comments re problems, stuff that isn't working; battery impact etc.
