Ever heard of a phone going on fire while charging?

So we had a fire safety inspection in our flat last night. All good, but the guys warned us not to charge phones overnight in case they go on fire!! Presumably they know what they're talking about (being firemen lol) but... has anyone ever heard of a phone causing a fire while charging?

I've charged every single phone I've ever owned overnight and not one has ever caught fire, nor have I ever heard stories from friends or family of such an event occurring.

I think it may be theoretically possible, but then again, so's being killed by a meteorite.

Most of the times I've read about phone fires, they've been hoaxes where they'd been put in microwaves. Might be possible with dodgy chargers or if they've been damaged. Have had phones on charge for a lot longer than overnight before.
Most phones in stores (well the ones that aren't dummies) are permanently on charge, don't recall cpw or p4u stores burning down that often.

That'll be due to the story that was just before Christmas, about a boy and his Blackberry.

Yeah, no offence: but boys that age would of course NOT EVER mess with their gadgets. No, sir. never. Honest.

That does sound somewhat like one side of a two sided story, an interesting interpretation of real events or if you're feeling less eloquent; bullsh*t.

"A senior member of our team met with the family yesterday to initiate a full investigation into this matter," the statement read. "In order to proceed with this investigation we require the products that were involved in this incident to be made available for a full technical review. At this point in time the family has not provided RIM with the battery or charger for analysis and have said they are unable to locate the device itself. We have a team on standby to conduct this investigation as a priority as soon as the family makes these products available to us."
2 months on and no follow up stories..

Doubt it - this thread was started a three weeks before that incident...
