How to port Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to myTouch 4G Slide

How to port Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to myTouch 4G SlideThis article is for our Mobotniks on the US side of the pond, who have a myTouch 4G Slide by T-Mobile and were craving for something other than the HTC Espresso interface on top of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Well, wait no more: the devs over at xda-developers have managed to port Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onto the myTouch 4G Slide, using a leaked ROM originally intended for the HTC Sensation.

Of course, with a dual-core processor and generous 768 MB of RAM on the keyboard-toting 4G device, you might well expect Android Ice Cream Sandwich to be running smoothly.

However, with this ROM being in an early alpha stage, not everything may work smoothly or even at all. But since neither T-Mobile nor HTC have committed to bring the latest Android 4.0 version to the myTouch 4G Slide, we're afraid you'll have to get down and flashing sooner or later, if you really want all the Ice Cream Sandwich goodness.

So, if you want to know how to port Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and don't care about the warranty on your myTouch 4G Slide, let's see the juicy bits: follow this tutorial to get your myTouch 4G Slide (codename HTC Doubleshot) prepared for everything, and then download this Ice Cream Sandwich ROM and flash it.

Just keep in mind that things like video recording, the accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass aren't working yet.

Wow, I never knew we had development side of Mobot, is this going to be a continuing feature?

I like it, FWIW :).

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 3, 2012 at 16:48

Hiya, Lewin, nice to have you here :).

Emma, will all Lewin's articles be US based? Or did this one just happen to be about a US only phone?

Livven  Jan. 3, 2012 at 16:51

I'm the new guy :) I'll be covering hacking-related stuff, you may know me as "Livven" from across the web.

emmajk42 / MOD  Jan. 3, 2012 at 16:51

Matt, Liwen will be posting worldwide content, so you'll see UK stuff too :) Thanks for the support guys!

Treab  Jan. 3, 2012 at 16:52

Wouldn't it be interesting if he was american and all his articles are american only... keep up the good work liwen (where's the name from?) it should make matt sad ;)

Livven  Jan. 3, 2012 at 16:54

Wow, there's quite a community here!

I've got Chinese roots (or, I'm just Chinese), but was born in Germany and live there as well. This article just happened to be US-related, but that's just a coincidence.

Treab  Jan. 3, 2012 at 16:57

i dunno how to use that in a joke :( im soo miserable...

Good to see all the usual posters have welcomed you, just keep it down or JanSt will turn up as well, shhhhhhh :p

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude but is your name writen Li "w" en, or Li "v v" en? I'd hate to keep writing it wrong :p. Ahh, the interesting side of phones, there's nothing better than getting rid of everything that the manufacturer decided was "best" IMO haha :D.

What devices have you got at the moment mate (just 'cos I'm nosey like that :p)?

Treab, what's making me sad, I'm lost :p?

Emma, cheers for the info, phones are one thing where the UK seems to get all the cool stuff first haha :D.

Treab  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:03

Finally having a mod poster... only to find he posts hacks for international phones ;)

unless... is liwen jans replacement oO hehehe

Livven  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:03

Both, actually. Liwen (with w) is my real name, Livven (with vv) my pseudonym. Do a search on it, you'll get some interesting stuff ;)

I have an HD2 running everything (WP7.5 Mango at the moment), iPod touch 4, and will get a Galaxy Nexus to stay on top of Android.

Welcome to hell Livven :)

What?

Treab  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:09

Well you started off well ... a poster interested in hacking...

then you pick one of possibly the worst android phones around...

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:10

Livven, (I've gone for v v if that's ok?), you post on the portal over at XDA. I've just seen your post about XXKP4 & XXKP8. I'm currently running KP8 and have been for a few days, it's damn good IMO. TouchWiz crashes a lot but LauncherPro fixed that.

Treab, the SGN is the best way to keep up with Android as it'll get updates at least for the next 12 months, first.

Treab  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:11

Just pah... i would rather have more power ;)

Livven  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:11

I don't care about those official updates anyway, the GNex simply has the biggest community of devs supporting it. That's why I got the HD2 last year.

Livven  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:12

Just pah... i would rather have more power ;)
Which phone has more power?

mrew42  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:15

Yayy more geeky techy stuff. welcome aboard Livven, i hope you can cope with the often high noise to signal ratio around here :)

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 3, 2012 at 17:17

Treab, be nice!!

You'll have to excuse our dearest Treab, he can be a bit...different, on times :p.
