Is this HP's new smartphone? Hopefully not

Is this HP's new smartphone? Hopefully notHP revealed earlier this month that it was working on a new smartphone as it seeks to move forward from its failed webOS adventure, and today a new image has surfaced claiming to be a glimpse of what HP has in mind.

It's only an image render rather than an actual photo, so there's no telling if it's accurate or not – especially since the anonymous tipster who leaked it to Phone Arena didn't dish up any specs or other information to go with it.

Yet it looks plausible enough, well to the extent that it looks like a phone, has HP's name is on it and is clearly running Android at least.

What we don't get any sign of is the "differentiated experience" we were promised by HP senior director Yam Su Yin earlier this month. In fact, there's nothing much notable about the design at all.

Let's hope for HP's sake that it's either a fake or that the goodness is all on the inside, is there's precious little to get excited about on first impressions.

Well, if you took an early Htc One render and didn't point out what it's made from, it wouldn't look all that unusual, either. Or a Z or or or...
The problem is what HP did with webOS, how they treated devs and end users.
I wouldn't buy ice cubes from them in the desert.

Well this clearly isn't a real rumour. It's a quick mock up job of a stock 4.1 Jelly Bean Android screen inside an iPhone 4 frame, with a notification LED from the Nexus 4 and a low resolution HP logo slapped on the back. Not that I don't believe that another HP phone is close in the pipeline, but at least provide a more solid render.
