You seem to really know your phones - what would be your choices for a decent basic phone with GOOD ergonomics and decent battery life, one that doesn't look too embarrassing in public and performs basic functions well? (accessing + sending email is the most advanced I'd need)

The Desire HD isn't a better device than any of the Nexus phones (bar possibly the ancient Nexus One, though even that's a close call between the two).

The DHD's issues include:

A crap camera
Questionable build quality - good quality parts, they just dislike staying together
Officially stuck on Gingerbread (2.3)
Terrible battery life (really, it'll struggle to last a day)
Nothing about it is actually "HD", despite the name (okay, it records 720p video, but so does the original "non-HD" Desire totally negating that point).
The display looks washed out even compared to other LCD displays I've seen and definitely compared to the AMOLED displays which all Nexus phones have (even the Nexus One)

Given more time, I could likely think of more reasons why I dislike the DHD, which trust me, I really, really do.
