HTC: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates all coming in August

HTC: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates all coming in August

Martin James  Aug. 10, 2012 at 18:15

Good news for HTC users drumming their fingers on their Sense UIs waiting for a bit of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich action: HTC has promised it'll have all its updates out by the end of the month.

Of course, this from a company that is only having to make the promise because it's failed to deliver on previous promises. And Desire HD users: sorry, you're still not on the ICS VIP list.

HTC updates Ice Cream Sandwich schedule

HTC updates Ice Cream Sandwich schedule

Lewis Curdie  May. 23, 2012 at 14:00

We recently got an update on the Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich saga, and now HTC is teasing its users with fresh Android 4.0 info.

There’s good news in the form of more specific dates, but bad news in that some HTC devices won’t get a taste of delicious Ice Cream Sandwich after all.

HTC devices getting Ice Cream Sandwich in March

HTC devices getting Ice Cream Sandwich in March

Phil Lavelle  Feb. 10, 2012 at 18:30

Here's one we didn't see coming. Despite Samsung being the first to proudly show off Android Ice Cream Sandwich on the Galaxy Nexus, it looks like it'll be HTC to bring the updated OS to the masses first.

The Taiwanese manufacturer has obviously seen Sense (see what we did there?) and promised its faithful via Facebook that many handsets will get the update in a matter of weeks - March, to be exact.

HTC Primo primed for Mobile World Congress

HTC Primo primed for Mobile World Congress

One of the problems with reading and writing lots about mobile phones is that very little comes as a surprise.

For example, we’re already practising our “no WAY!” faces for when HTC lifts the lid on the quad-core HTC Edge and dual-core HTC Ville next month, and now we’re hearing all about the HTC Primo – a budget chap not too far off the HTC Desire S.

The best smartphones of 2011? Yes and no… part 1

The best smartphones of 2011? Yes and no… part 1

Lewis Curdie  Dec. 30, 2011 at 13:00

It’s around that time when publications are obliged to take a long hard look over the past year and ask: What were the best smartphones of 2011? Invariably, the resultant Top 5s will include the Samsung Galaxy S II and iPhone 4S, perhaps the Nokia N9 if they’re a particularly geeky lot, and maybe even a curveball in the form of the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900.

Instead, I figured I’d compile each and every one of Mobot’s handset reviews from 2011 into one handy feature. Want to know what Dave thought of the Samsung Galaxy S II? Or what Emma said about the iPad 2? Read on!

Blink and you’ll miss 396 HTC smartphones

Blink and you’ll miss 396 HTC smartphones

So I see someone (namely justincredible) asked: “How many phones has HTC released in the UK this year?” on the discussion board this morning. Any excuse for a list, man. They’re right up there with pie charts, for my money.

He further asks if the total is “More than 12?” I’m going to go out on a limb and say: “Uhm, probably.” Almost certainly, if we’re including both Android and Windows Phone 7 releases. In fact, I won’t be surprised if we make 15. Ready?

HTC: the year so far

HTC: the year so far

When it comes to range, HTC has it covered, from the 3.2in Gratia all the way up to the 4.3in Sensation. Big? Small? Keyboard? No keyboard? Single-core? Dual-core? 3D? Android? Windows Phone 7? You want it, HTC has it.

Earlier this week we reported that HTC sold a whopping 12.11 million smartphones in Q2, exceeding its own projections by a fair whack. Crazier still, it hopes to punt 13.5 million units in Q3. iPhone 5? What iPhone 5?

Skype 2.0 brings two-way video calls to some (ok, four) Android phones

Skype 2.0 brings two-way video calls to some (ok, four) Android phones

Pop along to the Android Market and you’ll find a brand new update for everyone’s favourite (disclaimer: not actually everyone’s favourite) VoIP service, Skype, namely version 2.0.0.45.

The big addition here is the ability for users to “make and receive free 1-to-1 video calls over Skype between their Android phone and other Skype contacts on the iPhone, Mac, Windows PCs and even TV”. Er, if you happen to own one of four Android handsets.

If you're tired of living your life in shades of grey, maybe you should head over to Vodafone and check out the red HTC Desire S. According to Unwired View, the red handset is a Vodafone exclusive, though aside from the colour it's completely unchanged from the regular Desire S.

Stuff is here!

Stuff is here!

Just a couple of weeks ago it felt like we’d never get our hands on any of the goodies we saw at Mobile World Congress. While Apple favours a quick one-two, revealing products and shipping them shortly afterwards, other manufacturers are painfully slow to get their junk out.

But the mobile world has suddenly gone a bit mental, throwing bundles of stuff in our faces. It’s like Christmas. Except you have to pay hundreds of pounds for your own presents. So not like Christmas at all then. Moving swiftly on…
