Any HTC Desire Z type phones on the horizon soon? Really like the separate keyboard

Can't think of one coming to Europe.
I seem to remember some upcoming US launches....

Same, I can't think of any European ones. The US got the Droid 4 (a RAZR with a slide-out KB), but that'll never see the light of day over here as it was a CDMA only device.

I'm a bit of a qwerty fan. But tbh, I never liked the Dezire Z type (or, older: N97/E7) landscape type slid-out keypad. Maybe I'm rigid in my habits, but I prefer using phones in portrait mode.
Only for watching a video clip, or the occasional quick game do I ever use a phone in landscape mode. I even prefer web browsing in portrait mode. It's silly, maybe...
But, yep, I'd prefer a decent onscreen keypad over a GREAT landscape hardware qwerty...

I agree with you - to a certain extent.

I do most of my typing (the majority of which is sending texts), with my phone in portrait mode, so a landscape slide out KB would be pointless and a portrait slide out KB would make my phone too damn big to use.

On the other hand, I do browse in landscape mode, as that's how websites were meant to be viewed (bar mobile sites, which I never use).

I've read about the Samsung Gravity Smart, T-Mobile's SideKick (in various incarnations); no idea if they're out in the UK.

As a compromise, you might want to try Swype keyboard (literally what it implies: you "swipe" the touchscreen). The newest version is much more responsive and accurate than before. I'm a bit of a fan and prefer it over the stock Android keyboard. http://beta.swype.com/android/create/

I can understand not liking a touchscreen, it took me a while to adapt to it.
