HTC One S vs HTC Sensation XE

Is the HTC One S better than the HTC Sensation XE?

By far. Better processors, more durable case, slimmer design, better battery life, better WiFi reception, Bluetooth 4, better camera, better version of Sense preinstalled.

The screen is different, they've swapped Super LCD with Super AMOLED (you'll need to decide if you have a preference between LCDs slight sharpness advantage over AMOLEDs better viewing angles, black levels and lower power consumption).

Also make sure if you go for the One S, 13 GBs usable and 25 GBs DropBox is enough for you.

Beware the PenTile...

Beware the PenTile...

Yawn, no-one complained when it was on the Desire, Lumia 800, heck, even the Note is pentile and it's less than 30 PPI sharper than the One S. This is only a problem if you like sticking your phone 2-inches from your eyeballs.

Despite the PenTile display, the One S is a far better phone than the Sensation XE.

EDIT: Whoops, accidentally deleted my post, nice one touchscreen!
Anyway, as I was saying that's a macro-shot, it looks nothing like that in real life. You're confusing the forums for tech enthusiasts talking to tech enthusiasts like XDA. When really the forums are tech enthusiasts helping mainstream consumers. They don't give two hoots about PenTile vs. RGB. It's got a very good PPI and the screen looks good in real life. The end.

Ah yes, the view from a person with macro-eyeballs. Do you write to newspapers to complain their 200 DPI prints are too low-res when you look at them from 2 inches away as well?

No, I don't get a newspaper ;).

You mean everyone else doesn't view their phones through magnifying glasses?

Apparently it's just me who doesn't. I guess everyone else likes to blow up 0.5cm icons to fit 10cm (that's not an exaggeration, that's actually what Matt's picture is).

PenTile doesn't look as nice as true RGB. Look at the original Galaxy S compared to the Galaxy S2.

Screen on the note and the 800 both look very good to me and if they are pentile guess it's better than it used to be.

*looks around nervously* And beware mentioning negatives about Note lol

Following this discussion I had a play with it (O2 branded) - looks and feels stunning (light yet solid). Screen is perfectly fine - in fact: better viewing angles than the Sony Xperia S.
Camera loads very fast, and hardly any delay between shots (though, yes, I was indoors in a well-lit store).
IRL it looks a real lot better than in photos, and a whole lot better than the Sensation/XE.

I'll definitely have another, longer play with it :D

Did you get a chance to compare it to the One X? I'm seriously considering getting one...£450 from Three UK.

No :( Sadly they didn't have that in, yet.
Now that I've seen the S instore, I'm actually X-curious, too.

I've heard that the One S' body with the One X's screen would be the perfect combination. Is Mobot getting a One X/S in to review? I'd be interested to hear someone I (internet) know's views on either device.

I'm sure they will be reviewed.
Agree. The One S is really sleek. For a 4.3'' screen it's very very sleek. Compared, the N9 feels chunky and that only has a 3.9'' screen.

Liking Sense 4, by the way, but then: I didn't run any heavy apps...

The one X review on modaco was quite inspiring

matt101101 / MOD  Apr. 4, 2012 at 18:04

I've not read that one, what was so good about it :)?

Pondlife  Apr. 4, 2012 at 18:12

It made me far more interested in it than I would have expected, mind you the previous review I read there made me want the Sony S. I think I like his reviews lol

Was surprised after slightly negative things I'd seen about the camera that it seemed fast and pretty decent, although as netbook crashed as I opened the full size versions I didn't get great look at them.
Still not sure I'd get on with handset that big though

The One X is less than a CM taller and less than half a CM wider than the S2 (it's the same thickness).

Pondlife  Apr. 4, 2012 at 19:32

Don't really care about the height, but not sure if even that modest increase would stop my one hand texting.

blizzard7  Apr. 4, 2012 at 19:34

TBH, it can be a bit difficult to do some things one-handed on a 4.3-incher. The way I hold my phone (with my left hand), there's an unreachable spot in the top-right corner. It's a small price to pay for a nice vast screen, but I'd imagine on a 4.7" phone that's unreachable area would be much bigger.

You have girly little hands ;).

Pah, you're just sore I'm right about PenTile.

You're wrong about PenTile...it still sucks, just depends if you're willing to overlook it or not. Either way, SAMOLED is a 2 year old screen technology.
