HTC has responded to phone-tinkerers bemoaning the locked bootloaders on their HTC smartphones, with a statement that’s sure to please modders everywhere - issued via the magic of Facebook.
The decision to lock its bootloaders was believed to be a reaction to networks’ concerns over tethering implications associated with rooting. However the networks will be left sobbing into their cornflakes when they hear HTC’s news.
Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, writes: “There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened.
“Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience.” No worries, Pete.
Essentially that’ll make it much easier to root and mod your HTC phone. Yup.
