On November 3 last year, HTC tweeted that the One M8 and One M7 would receive a taste of Android Lollipop 5.0 “within 90 days”, with the self-imposed deadline being February 1, 2015 i.e. tomorrow.
Well, at the eleventh hour, HTC is holding its hands up and admitting that not all One M8 and One M7 models will get the Android Lollipop update in time.
The Taiwanese manufacturer has issued an official statement on the HTC site, titled, appropriately, An Update on Our Lollipop Rollout.
The upshot is that it’s not entirely HTC’s fault. Android Lollipop has been plagued with bugs (maybe a slight exaggeration, but only slight), and the Taiwanese are juggling numerous carrier versions that all need fixing. To HTC’s credit, it doesn’t want to fire out buggy Android Lollipop updates.
HTC says it’s already rolled out Android Lollipop updates for the Google Play, Unlocked and Developer Editions of the One M8, and it’ll “push hard” to serve the remaining devices as close to the 90-day mark as possible.
