The HTC One M8 is here, the inevitable One M8 mini isn’t far off by the sounds of it, and we’re also told to brace for the One M8 Ace, essentially a wallet-friendly One M8 in a plastic body. Phew! Room for one more?
For the first time, we’re hearing word of something called the HTC One M8 Prime. What the…?
That’s the word according to trusted twitter-based leak machine @evleaks, who tweets: “Forget the Ace. What y'all are really waiting for is codenamed M8 Prime.”
The Prime moniker immediately brings to mind the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, which is tipped to build upon the base Galaxy S5 with a larger display, QHD resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 16MP rear camera.
The logical conclusion is that the HTC One M8 Prime will do something similar, with a larger display, faster processor, more RAM and a fancier camera than the bog standard One M8.
An alternative theory suggests that the HTC One M8 Prime might simply mark a rebranding of the Max range. The HTC One Max (above) touched down last year, around six months after the One, with a larger display, and a fingerprint scanner on the rear.
All conjecture for the moment, of course, but Evan Nelson Blass is generally quite reliable, so it’s probably fair to say the HTC One M8 Prime is happening, though how it fits into the larger M8 picture remains a mystery for now.
