As HTC probably looks to distance itself from Beats Audio (read about the ongoing fiasco here), it’s building on BoomSound, as debuted on the HTC One earlier this year.
Meet HTC BoomBass, essentially a Bluetooth speaker, or – as HTC describes it – subwoofer. Bring on the bass! Or words to that effect.
Interestingly, HTC BoomBass doesn’t double as a dock-style charger, instead pairing with smartphones via NFC (Near Field Communication). There is, however, a slide-out base to prop your phone on.
In terms of battery life, HTC BoomBass promises up to nine hours of playback on a single charge.
The accompanying press release declares: “In the HTC One, HTC redefined the smartphone sound experience with HTC BoomSound and has now raised the bar again with the introduction of a new accessory for the HTC One family.
“HTC BoomBass, a compact, Bluetooth-enabled subwoofer with a dedicated amplifier, provides clearer, more powerful bass when combined with the HTC One family's BoomSound.
“The subwoofer enables HTC BoomSound's speakers to produce enhanced quality of lower range frequencies so, no matter what music you're playing or video you're watching, you are guaranteed immense and exceptional sound that can travel with you.”
HTC BoomBass is slated for a mid-October release on www.htcaccessorystore.com, though whether or not that encompasses the UK is unclear at present.
