HTC updates Ice Cream Sandwich schedule

We recently got an update on the Motorola Ice Cream Sandwich saga, and now HTC is teasing its users with fresh Android 4.0 info.

There’s good news in the form of more specific dates, but bad news in that some HTC devices won’t get a taste of delicious Ice Cream Sandwich after all.

Hold on to your seats, here comes... the Facebook phone!

We thought HTC had pretty much put the whole Facebook phone thing to rest last year when the Salsa and ChaCha arrived on the scene complete with their dedicated Facebook buttons and did... well, not very much to be honest.

But no, it seems HTC is a sucker (or Zucker?) for punishment, and the latest rumour hitting our ears via the mobile grapevine is that the company is ready to have another go.

The best smartphones of 2011? Yes and no… part 2

Good afternoon to you. Apparently I didn’t make it clear enough in The best smartphones of 2011? Yes and no… part 1 that I was simply listing a synopsis of each and every Mobot handset review from 2011, in plain old chronological order. Also, when I say “part 1”, it’s perfectly safe to assume there’s a second part in the proverbial pipeline. You maniacs.

I listed a total of 18 devices in part 1, and not one – including the Samsung Galaxy S II and iPad 2 – managed a perfect 5/5. Evidently that Dave Oliver is a tough gentleman to please. Will we see a cheeky 5/5 in part 2? I really don’t know. Personally, I’m hoping for a 1/5. Let’s rock!

Blink and you’ll miss 396 HTC smartphones

So I see someone (namely justincredible) asked: “How many phones has HTC released in the UK this year?” on the discussion board this morning. Any excuse for a list, man. They’re right up there with pie charts, for my money.

He further asks if the total is “More than 12?” I’m going to go out on a limb and say: “Uhm, probably.” Almost certainly, if we’re including both Android and Windows Phone 7 releases. In fact, I won’t be surprised if we make 15. Ready?

HTC: the year so far

When it comes to range, HTC has it covered, from the 3.2in Gratia all the way up to the 4.3in Sensation. Big? Small? Keyboard? No keyboard? Single-core? Dual-core? 3D? Android? Windows Phone 7? You want it, HTC has it.

Earlier this week we reported that HTC sold a whopping 12.11 million smartphones in Q2, exceeding its own projections by a fair whack. Crazier still, it hopes to punt 13.5 million units in Q3. iPhone 5? What iPhone 5?

Get your ChaCha and Salsa on at Amazon

We’ve been talking about the HTC ChaCha quite a bit recently. Firstly, because it’s one of the phew QWERTY Android phones out there, and also because it’s doing a wee European tour thingy in June and July.

Well, get ready for some more HTC ChaCha related news, as it has just popped up on Amazon with its buddy the HTC Salsa. They’re scheduled for a June 26 release, and you can pre-order ‘em now.

Let's dance! Pre-order pages for HTC's Salsa and ChaCha have been lined up by Expansys with a proposed launch date of June 17. No wonder we couldn't play with the Facebook Phone duo at MWC – clearly they're a fair bit from finished. No prices have been put down yet, in case you were wondering.

Speaking via pre-recorded video at Mobile World Congress, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg tells us we can expect to see “dozens of phones with much deeper social intergration” in 2011.

Looks like we owe City AM an apology, or at least part of one anyway.

For while it's still very much HTC's own logo on the top of the firm's new Salsa and ChaCha smartphones, this twinkle-toed duo – unveiled this morning here at Mobile World Congress 2011 – are in just about every other sense genuine Facebook phones.
