HTC Sensation should be with us soon! (orange)

Phoned Orange for the 12th time this month asking when the Sensation will be out and was told that it has passed testing and will be avaliabel either later today or tomorrow.
Obviously I wouldn't take this as gospel but keeping my fingers crossed.

They also said that the SGS2 was on back order, must be popular!

@waiting4ages, yes, it isn't on the website but it's passed testing and is now avaliable, mine is coming tomorrow :o) can't wait!

Interesting stuff. The Galaxy II has been extremely popular and I must say Samsung has done a good job with marketing. Are you already with Orange? If so you may be interested in wriggling out a retention deal on either phone.

mrew42  Jul. 11, 2011 at 13:41

I've expressed an interest as my contract is up for upgrade at the wnd of the month. Though looking at Oranges prices they;d have to go a long way to get close to the Talk Mobile deal over 12 months that's currently smashing the temp ratings over at HUKD.

drunken_prozac  Jul. 11, 2011 at 13:43

I've been waiting for the Sensation to come out on orange as I am with them and wondered what price it would be if I stayed. Also if the Sensation is out on other networks apart from Vodafone then I could barter then against each other.

The offered me 2 weeks ago a SGS2, 18 months £25 a month 600mins 600 txt's 500mb net, roughly :o)
Seemed like a good deal as I have only been with them for 1 contract (18 months).
Will see what the sensation price is and if more than I expected then I will ask around other companies, one thing I want from them is to get my HTC Hero unlocked for free as they normally charge £20!!!

blizzard7  Jul. 11, 2011 at 13:50

If you wait till you're in the last month or out of contract, you get the best deals then (but good luck getting a 12 month contract! :p).

That's a good deal for an 18 month contract. Works out pretty much the same as the Talk Mobile deal over the contract life but you're getting 6 months more worth of texts, minutes and internet. I think the Galaxy II and the Sensation are good enough that you wouldn't want to upgrade before 18 months.

drunken_prozac  Jul. 11, 2011 at 14:02

that's why I've been hanging on, even though orange isn't the greatest for signal I have never had an issue with customer service.
Also with a quicker phone perhaps my signal issues won't be as exposed as it would switch from orange to t-mobile within an hour, unlike my Hero which takes forever to figure out if it's even switched on ;o)

Will post back once the guy phones me back with the release dfate and price for the Sensation

mrew42  Jul. 11, 2011 at 14:03

@blizzard7: Yes was aware of waiting til the very end. My Desire has developed the 'overheating' issue but as I changed the screen myself in the first 3 months bang goes any warranty. As long as I'm careful I can avoid it shutting down by itself (have to take the battery out to let it cool down properly - not that it's actually that hot). May just wait until October when there'll be more to choose from.:)

@d_p: That is a very good deal. i'd probably bite their hands off if I got that sort of offer.

blizzard7  Jul. 11, 2011 at 14:15

Well I applaud drunken_prozac for hanging onto an HTC Hero for so long and mrew42 for living with a faulty phone (_;) Good luck for the both of you in terms of deals X)

gaughans  Jul. 11, 2011 at 16:57

Any news yet? Knowing how long orange took to launch eclair for my hero it'll be sometime in August.

Moka-Bear  Jul. 11, 2011 at 18:56

Quite disappointing how long it's taking, considering Voda already have it.

drunken_prozac  Jul. 12, 2011 at 19:45

Just had a lovely bloke call me up 'mick' who said when it comes in he will call me (good customer service).
now even he said this was a bit expensive;
unlim txts
500mb net
£99 up front with £35.75 a month 18 months!

Now if I was a new customer I would say knock the £99 off and I'll take it, but after 2yrs being with them I said definitely not.

Anyone got any half decent 18 month'ers out there?

mmbeak  Jul. 12, 2011 at 20:09

Found this deal on HUKD with Talk Mobile:

400 mins
1000 texts
1GB data
£30 per month
12-month contract
£99 up-front (£46 back via Quidco though)

Seems like a better deal all-round with (IMHO) a generally better signal than Orange.

drunken_prozac  Jul. 13, 2011 at 07:51

yes it is a cracking deal but I have always been wary of Carphone warehouse (talkmobile parent company) as they always seem to have massive clauses in contracts and customer service is bad.
I have found on mobiles.co.uk;
web900 plan
unlim net
18 months
£35 a month, half price first 5 months

I know its still expensive but no £99 up front and more for my money, perhaps if I ring orange back they wil have a look, otherwise, as my missus is on vodafone, I may ask them to join me onto her contract.. see what happens :)

drunken_prozac  Jul. 13, 2011 at 07:58

*and I have realised that mobiles.co.uk is part fo carphone warehouse too.... ****!

drunken_prozac  Jul. 13, 2011 at 09:38

top bloke @blizzard!
might try out t-mobile... £30.64/month, 18month, 600mins, 500 txt unlim net £20 cashback :o)

do you think I could phone t-mobile direct and state these deals?

blizzard7  Jul. 13, 2011 at 09:53

Glad you liked it, I was wrestling with the link getting it formatted properly (was ignoring the commas) :p . I think yes it would be possible if you got a polite agent BUT they're not going to go mucking around with cashback so that would be out of the picture.

drunken_prozac  Jul. 13, 2011 at 10:14

yep, the cashback would be useful to pay to get the hero unlocked (bloomin' orange wanting £20 for it) but if I can get a decent price for the sensation I'm not fussed :)

thanks for your help

drunken_prozac  Jul. 13, 2011 at 10:49

hmmmm, t-mobile direct same as above but 24month contract & £20 for phone :(

blizzard7  Jul. 13, 2011 at 11:02

£30 Quidco too if bought online.

drunken_prozac  Jul. 13, 2011 at 11:24

well been on the phone all morning... think I might stick with orange, managed to get
unlim txt
1GB net
18 months

means i dont have to switch networks or bill details etc....

Not the greatest deal but hassle free... what you think?

blizzard7  Jul. 13, 2011 at 13:23

I'd go for it, no worrying about switching phone number, giving out details all over again and you've got tried and true signal. It's a good deal made sweeter by less hassle.

waiting4ages  Jul. 13, 2011 at 13:26

hi , are you talking about being offered sensation from orange? i have been out of contract for ages waiting!

mrew42  Jul. 13, 2011 at 14:39

@DP: I agree with blizzard7, i'd go for that if I could get that now (no switching networks etc) I have to say thus far I'm plenty happy with Orange.

blizzard7  Jul. 13, 2011 at 15:39

I'd be plenty happy too if there wasn't about a 100 MB of bloatware pre-installed on my Desire :p

mrew42  Jul. 13, 2011 at 16:33

@blizzard7. root and cm7. I've been bloatware free for ages :)
