A number of sites have reported the announcement of a new social networking smartphone from HTC, namely the Twitter-focused Tata. The HTC Tata is said to be similar to the HTC ChaCha Facebook phone, with Twitter replacing Zuckerberg’s baby.
That is, of course, if the HTC Tata exists at all. Let’s not forget that it’s April Fools’ Day.
Of the ten or so sites that I checked, all of them credited either this article from Pocketnow, or HTC’s Twitter page. Maybe I’m being slightly thick, but I can’t find any record of a Tata-related Tweet from HTC. Not one site has a direct link to the supposed Tweet.
The specs suggested by Pocketnow make for bizarre reading too, particularly the 600MHz dual-core processor that we “haven’t previously seen.” Hmm.
Pocketnow also suggests that both the RAM and ROM will be 1GB. That’s really something special when you consider that the HTC Desire S and Incredible S have only 768MB RAM.
It’s interesting to see so many fairly reputable sites taking Pocketnow’s word as gospel without properly looking into the story. April Fools indeed.
