HTC Volantis: Android Silver tablet with 5GB of RAM?

HTC Volantis: Android Silver tablet with 5GB of RAM?Quick catch-up: Android Silver in early 2015; Nexus program in jeopardy and almost certainly no Google Nexus 6; HTC Volantis possibly last Nexus device - Nexus 9. We good?

As if the whole Nexus/Android Silver saga wasn’t complicated enough, we’re now being told that the HTC Volantis (or “flounder”) might actually be an Android Silver tablet. “WTF”, as the kids say.

That’s the story over on the @evleaks blog thingy, with frankly too many characters to squeeze into a tiny wee tweet.

For starters, Evan tells us to forget those earlier HTC Volantis renders, dismissing them as fake. Er, sorry Android Police.

In addition, HTC Volantis specs will supposedly include a silver aluminium unibody, 64-bit Tegra K1 processor, 5GB of RAM, an 8.9in display with 1680 x 1050 resolution, 64GB internal storage, 5MP 1080p rear camera, and HTC BoomSound.

However, the specs are clearly up in the air at this stage, as Evan says the HTC Volantis is also testing with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset; that the 5GB of RAM is “non-final”; that the final resolution will be 2560 x 1600; and that the rear camera might hit 8MP at retail. Phew.

Now, perhaps more interesting than all that stuff is the tiny little string of text on the accompanying picture that says “Android Silver OS Alpha 1.4”.

Assuming that’s on the money, and that the HTC Volantis is an Android Silver device, that begs the question: What is the next Nexus? Last week, we were told Android L was being developed alongside a device or devices, and that Android Silver and Nexus weren’t necessarily mutually exclusive.

This is far too complicated for me. Anyone got Columbo's number?

UPDATE: turns out we don't have to raise Peter Falk from the dead, as @evleaks has revealed the whole thing (plus another rumour about a OnePlus tablet) is the work of a 14-year-old's overactive imagination. Nice.
