The original Huawei Ascend Mate raised a few eyebrows when it launched back in January 2013, largely on account of its colossal 6.1in display, but there was definitely room for improvement.
Indeed, the rumoured Huawei Ascend Mate 2 sounds pretty much like everything we wanted the original to be.
It’s Huawei News leaking fresh new Huawei Ascend Mate 2 pics (of the bezel, specifically), while reiterating leaked Huawei Ascend Mate 2 specs from earlier in the year.
It looks like the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 will have a similar 6.1in display, though we can probably - probably - expect the resolution to creep from 720p to 1080p full HD. That’d be nice.
Oddly, while the original Huawei Ascend Mate was announced with 1GB of RAM, it looks like it made it to market with 2GB of RAM. Good stuff. Supposedly it’ll be 2GB of RAM again on the Huawei Ascend Mate 2. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has 3GB of RAM, of course, but inevitably Huawei's phablet will be more wallet-friendly.
Other Huawei Ascend Mate 2 specs are tipped to include a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 16GB internal storage, and Jelly Bean Android 4.2.2 (hmm) with Huawei’s Emotion UI.
The original Huawei Ascend Mate boasted a gigantic 4,050mAh battery, promising 2 days’ use on a single charge. We expect the successor will follow suit in the juice department.
And that’s all we know for now. I guess CES 2014 in January would make sense for the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 launch, the original having debuted at CES 2013.
