Windows Phone 8 devices have been accused of all looking pretty much the same, which is largely because Microsoft's device requirements for WP8 don't offer much scope for variety.
But Huawei has found a way to stand out from the crowd: the buttons on the forthcoming Ascend W2 will change colour to match the shade you've chosen for your Windows Phone tiles.
It's a purely visual feature that provides no actual user benefit, but to be honest it actually looks pretty cool judging by pics that have been posted on WPForum. It's the kind of thing Nokia, HTC and the other WP gang will probably be kicking themselves for not having thought of first.
All 20 Windows Phone Accent colour options are covered: select your shade of choice and the Back, Windows and Search key will match your preferred hue.
As for the more important details, the Ascend W2 is expected to come with a 4.3in display offering a WVGA resolution of 800 x 480, a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a moderately slender chassis measuring 9.9mm thick.
On this evidence, however, it's a long way from a high-end hero, and given Huawei's usual pricing tactics it'll no doubt give budget WP handsets a run for their money on price once it launches.
Speaking of which, the Huawei Ascend W2 should be arriving in the next few weeks, with Russia expected to get it first but hopefully it'll be showing up elsewhere before too long.
For the record, Engadget has posted a video hands-on of the Ascend W2, showing the colour-changing buttons doing their thing around the 50 second mark.
