There’s no shortage of cheap-but-decent Android smartphones, and that’s been one of the major factors in Android’s astronomical rise as king of the operating systems.
We have yet another budget chap here in the Huawei Ascend Y201, currently going for reasonable cheapness over at Tesco. But is it any good?
Tesco Direct is selling the Huawei Ascend Y201 for £70 on PAYG, or free on contracts from £10PM. That makes it £30-or-so cheaper than the Huawei Ascend G300 (recent Tesco in-store deal aside).
What do you get for your £70? Huawei Ascend Y201 specs include a 3.5in display (320 x 480), 3.2MP rear camera, 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of on-board storage (augmentable via microSD).
The Huawei Ascend Y201 has seemingly been reviewed with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), though Tesco insists that it ships with Gingerbead (Android 2.3). There's possibly a "Pro" version kicking around, which might explain the discrepancy.
In any case, HotUKDeals peeps aren’t convinced, with Tesco’s £70 Huawei Ascend Y201 offer sitting at -1 at the time of writing. Oh dear. Our advice? Hold out for the Huawei Ascend G300.
