Chinese manufacturer Huawei is ramping up its plans to win us in the UK over, with a host of goodies released under its own name. It aims to capture 4-5% of the market within the next 12 months, and will go head-to-head with Android runts LG and Sony Ericsson.
Yeah, probably a little soon to be setting its sights on the Android giants i.e. Samsung and HTC.
Roberta Cozza, an analyst with Gartner, notes: “We are seeing other players that unfortunately will continue to be challenged and Sony Ericsson is one of those.”
Huawei has manufactured phones for Orange, namely the Barcelona and Stockholm, but will push its own good name in future. A bit like ZTE. Oh, and HTC of course. It used to work away quietly in the background making carrier-branded handsets.
The Huawei Blaze is coming soon to the UK. It has a 3.2in display, 3.2MP camera, and runs Gingerbread. Unlike a lot of other lower-end smartphones, it includes a front-facing camera too. Cozza reckons it could go for as little as £100.
We’ll also get the 7in MediaPad. If you haven’t seen the ad on YouTube, I demand that you check it out right now.
