Samsung and Apple are poised to unveil new products in September, but where would month9 be without the world’s number three smartphone manufacturer?
Chinese chappy Huawei recently hinted it’d pop along to Berlin’s IFA 2014 in a couple of weeks, and a new invite thingy confirms a few more details, including the Ascend Mate 7 name.
A paper invite, er, invites us to ‘Feel’, above a fingerprint (ok, that’ll be a fingerprint scanner then) and brief reiteration of the September 4 launch date.
The fingerprint appears on the display of the smartphone sketch, as opposed to below the display – where we’d usually expect to see such tech, but maybe we’re reading too much into that.
Hitting up the accompanying QR code, we’re taken to a microsite (http://hd.158.cn, should you fancy it) where the Mate 7 name is confirmed, alongside a 3pm launch time. Of course, that’ll be 4pm to you and me in the UK.
Previous rumours suggest Huawei Ascend Mate 7 specs might encompass two models, one with a QHD resolution and 3GB of RAM, and a lesser model with a 1080p resolution and 2GB of RAM.
The first two Huawei Ascend Mates had 6.1in displays, and this being a flagship device (absorbing the Huawei Ascend D range, incidentally, hence the slightly odd numbering; the previous D was the D6), we don’t expect it to be much bigger.
Full story two weeks on Thursday.
