Okay.
Is she a talker or texter?
Does she use social nOtworks like Twitter or Farcebook?
Is she an emailer?
Does she like photos?
Does she like music or video on-the-go?
Does she know what Angry Birds are?
Does she mostly idle near a socket or does she rely on decent battery life?

Assuming the OP wants the iPhone 3GS new, it'll cost at least £250.
I'd recommend the iphone but there is no budget version that is cheaper than £150 new.

If you want something that just works out of the box with music, facebook and calls/texts then you can't go wrong with a Nokia Lumia 710 which you can get for £149 on o2 which will work with tesco. The interface is very easy to use and the camera is pretty good as well as battery life. It also integrates very well with a windows PC in terms of transferring files and music and documents.

However, it should be known that the phone does not have a micro SD Card slot and does not have a lot of applications like you can get on android e.g fun games and apps like instagram etc... But for basic apps and usage windows phone is great.

The non network locked deal on hukd for the nokia 710 comes out and £135 though.

Good point on the lack of memory card, totally didn't notice that. There's 8gb on board though so light user won't worry that much.

Have not used Lumia 710 or G300, so cannot comment on them. I would not recommend Samsung Ace. It has bad screen and very slow.

Take a look at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro which can be had from Handtec for £134 delivered.
1Ghz processor, 5mp camera with LED Flash and 720p HD recording, Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Nokia Lumia 710 isn't too bad either but my personally opinion is that it feels a little cheap.

Tiny screen, it's p*ss most people off before long...the G300 is a better choice if you want to go down the Android route.

A 3" HVGA screen isn't bad. Especially with a hardware QWERTY keyboard.
2 Years ago I was using the Motorola DEXT, a 3.1" HVGA screen and it was fine.
My girlfriend uses a 3.3" Xperia Ray and that size is fine too.
For most people that screen is fine.

Also, I think the Xperia is better for
Facebook (which is nicely integrated in the Sony firmware), Camera and listening to music.
The Xperia is also Sim Free, the G300 would need to be unlocked.

Unlock only costs about 8 quid, which is still going to come in under £134 and there's a reason HTC have said they're not making any more HW KB phones in the foreseeable future...

Yeah but the Ray has much better resolution and generally better for that matter.

AhmadCentral  Apr. 25, 2012 at 23:42

Yep, i too would say the Ray is better than the Xperia Pro

Dated resistive screen symbian phone, camera quite nice and decent styling, about the most positive I can be.

Zeusola  Apr. 27, 2012 at 00:36

lol

a wiz only asking.

G300 for now but i also fancy the Xperia mini which is rather ...sexual.

G300 for The Shazzernator and xperia for me then she gets to pick! Everyboys happy.

LG Optimus L3

Wotcha think of this, lads?

matt101101 / MOD  Apr. 30, 2012 at 00:53

G300 is a better phone, by far. Better processor, better screen (in size and pixel density), I'd be willing to bet a better camera too. All for the same price...

Zeusola  Apr. 30, 2012 at 00:56

the reviews say its a seriously pish ringer/speaker.

AhmadCentral  Apr. 30, 2012 at 07:48

Who told you it was 'seriously pish', Sean Connery? :p

I'd go to a store and try out some of the phones mentioned here. It'll give you a better idea as to which one is the best.

Pondlife  Apr. 30, 2012 at 10:59

It's not said to be the best speaker volume, some devs think it's software issue rather than hardware though so could get sorted. Even if not I'd rather have a slightly lacking speaker than the godawful screen in that LG.

Zeusola  May. 14, 2012 at 19:16

im still on the case for a phone for her, the pendant(diamond n ruby) thing won in the end when i sussed out I had to make a statement thing for a 40th.

AhmadCentral  May. 14, 2012 at 19:36

Huawei G300 for £100 from Vodafone.

They've fixed the speaker issue and included some bug fixes which make it faster and better than every single phone in that price range inc up to £170 RRP

Zeusola  May. 14, 2012 at 20:02

soooperb, Ahmad. :)

HOWEVER..lol

I've joost bought one of the Tocco Icon for 40 bar.

Yes, the pendant was dear.

AhmadCentral  May. 14, 2012 at 20:13

Aha,

The phones not bad for the price.

Just to let you know though, because it's a 2G phone it won't work on Three UK which is a 3G network. Any other network is fine though.
