No Ice Cream Sandwich for LG Optimus 2X

No Ice Cream Sandwich for LG Optimus 2XManufacturers are currently considering their game plans for Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), and HTC recently committed to the update after several days of humming and hawing.

However, one handset that won’t be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment is the Google Nexus One, and it looks like it’ll be joined on the bench by the LG Optimus 2X.

Facebook user Anant Nawalgaria asked Life’s Good: “IS the lg optimus 2x eligible for a android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich software upgrade?”

Unfortunately for LG Optimus 2X users, the answer was: “Dear Anant, we will not be introducing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates on LG Optimus 2X P990. Keep watching this space for further updates.”

The LG Optimus 2X was revealed late last year as the world’s first dual-core smarthphone. It received decent reviews, but soon after launch was plagued with Black Screen of Death issues.

It’s not clear if LG will pursue Ice Cream Sandwich action with its other dual-core flagship, the LG Optimus 3D.

Definatly going to avoid LG from now on.

nVidia's will not be upgraded. This is known given history of nVidia support.

The last decent LG was the Viewty, and that is saying something. I would rather regress to a Nokia 1110, than accept a free LG smartphone.

CTPA, is that confirmed that no Tegra 2 based devices will be getting ICS?

mcderment  Oct. 30, 2011 at 15:55

that is me never buying an LG again.

CTPAHHIK  Oct. 31, 2011 at 08:36

No, it's not confirmed. There is no official statement.
Previous history of nVidia is known to ignore aging technology. They are very quick to release stable drivers (way ahead of ATI) and update often as long as product is on sale. Once product hits end of life nVidia does not provide low level API updates (usually part of BIOS) and video cards become unstable with newer OSes and drivers. This is all from PNY LVL3 tech support person. I had an email exchange with PNY support team trying to get my old cards to work.
I was told that low level API source code is not released, but rather provided as a library and if there are no updates directly from nVidia there is not much you can do. Unless someone big twists nVidia's arm and pushes them for source code or update for ICS there won't be one.
