No Ice Cream Sandwich for Sony Ericsson Xperia Play?

No Ice Cream Sandwich for Sony Ericsson Xperia Play? We’ve had Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) updates from Motorola and HTC this week, and now it’s Sony’s turn. Huzzah!

However, don’t get too excited if you’re rocking a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, as your name ain’t on the list.

That’s the bad news (simply inferred at this point, to be fair) according to a fresh post on

The Japanese manufacturer promises that it’s “committed to bringing Android 4.0 to your smartphone”, however a list at the bottom of the post doesn’t include the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

There have been rumours that a beta version of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play caused intermittent crashes, so it’s not looking good.

In other pants news, Sony recently revealed that it won’t roll out Ice Cream Sandwich OTA due to concerns that it “may impact performance in some user scenarios”.

Similarly, Motorola has warned that it won't bother with Ice Cream Sandwich if it doesn't - all things considered - "improve" your device.

The lucky Sony (Ericsson) devices still scheduled for Ice Cream Sandwich are:

  • Xperia Arc and Arc S
  • Xperia Neo and Neo V
  • Xperia mini and mini pro
  • Xperia Pro
  • Xperia Active
  • Xperia Ray
  • Sony Live with Walkman

I can't tell whether this is just laziness or if it's actually true. Either way a phone that's only a year old deserves ICS! :|
