I guess it's not coming out for the S2 today either

Sad times...not that I'm not already running ICS, it's just always nice to have an official build
.
jaybear88 Mar. 1, 2012 at 17:09
I think I'll be doing a little rooting over the weekend, I've been putting it off since the official one was "just around the corner". But I can't wait any longer! Matt, how is it? Does it feel close to a stable version?
matt101101 / MOD Mar. 1, 2012 at 17:36
I'm currently running the latest TouchWiz build of ICS which was "leaked" by Samsung. It's not as stable as any of the official GB releases, apps randomly crash sometimes and the phone isn't as fast, IMO. Also, Samsung have messed up the way the browser scrolls...or that could be an ICS thing as opposed to a Samsung thing, I'm not sure.
It's a late stage beta that's for sure, and it's stable enough to use everyday for people who are even slightly tech minded. Saying that, they're my experiences with the S2, I have no idea how ICS is coming along for the Note as I don't own one.

Odd, ICS improved the browser.

You can't "flick to scroll" as well anymore. Some people prefer it this way, personally I hate it.
techwizard Mar. 2, 2012 at 05:54
dissapointed with samsung. My ice cream sandwich already melted!![]()
jaybear88 Mar. 2, 2012 at 07:32
Cheers for the heads up Matt, i use flick to scroll constantly. Can't figure put why they would remove it completely when you could just as easily leave it as an optional feature! The note Rom look quite good and they through darky Rom looks like it sorts out the occasional lag we get when going back to the homescreen. Ill have a look into it and if it looks like its definitely at a near enough stable point, ill let you know how it goes :-)
matt101101 / MOD Mar. 2, 2012 at 18:11
Flick to scroll hasn't totally disappeared, it just doesn't work nearly as well as it did in GB (even on the early GB firmware versions). The official release of ICS for both the Note and the S2 (being nearly identical hardware wise), is scheduled for March 2012, so a maximum of 29 days away

Ahhhh the temptation..... not sure what to do at the moment!

Samsung Israel today confirmed via their FB page that ICS will officially be released for the S2 on March 15th.
I don't know what that means for the Note, but since they're very similar devices I guess it's indirectly good news
.
matt101101 / MOD Mar. 4, 2012 at 14:22
Roughly translated, the post read:
"We promised we were working on it. You waited patiently. And on 15 March it'll arrive: Android version 4, ICS, to tens of thousands of GALAXY S II devices purchased from cellular companies in the country or directly from us. We are very excited for the launch, hope you are too
"

matt101101 / MOD Mar. 5, 2012 at 07:18
Israel have GSM networks, their S2 is the i9100 same as ours. It'll be available to flash via ODIN

I wouldn't touch Kies with a ten foot barge pole anyway, even for official updates. I don't care how the official ICS build gets on my phone, I just want the stability and speed it'll bring with it.
Treab Mar. 6, 2012 at 00:02
Kies works fine for me... on both my laptops
but im just skilled i suppose.
matt101101 / MOD Mar. 6, 2012 at 00:16
Kies is well renowned as a total pile of poop....to put it politely. It's given up recognising my S2 as I have no idea what the last official firmware version actually was
.
Treab Mar. 6, 2012 at 00:44
in your case ... it never had gingerbread.
matt101101 / MOD Mar. 6, 2012 at 08:33
It did, many versions of it in fact. I've only been using ICS as my everyday ROM for a couple of months.
Treab Mar. 6, 2012 at 15:10
no you didn't... the medication told you it did...
