Can iMessage be disabled for individual contacts?

Can iMessage be disabled for individual contacts? There's one person (an ex!) I don't want to be able to see when I've read their messages, or if their message has been delivered or whatever.

Doesn't look like you can.

With pondlife... Although: I read somewhere that certain (US?) networks will block contacts for you. Might be worth a call to your customer care...
OP, seek help... The word "ex" means ex. Simplify your life. ;)

Would that work though as it's not technically using the phone networks is it?

Doesn't seem like it would be difficult for Apple to do and all the other im programs I've ever used could block guess it's just another thing for your convenience that just works...

I tried to have Apple stop Imessage or to see if they had parental control. They said no and got very obnoxious. They said turn it off at the phone but it can be easily turned back on. Someone was stalking my grandson and AT&T signed me up for parental control and I was able limit phone #'s allowed only to AT&T and our surprise it stopped SMS texting and phone calls but Apple messaging still allowed text and told me they didn't care and I could switch phones if I wanted. Of course we all know what's involved with switching. More $ and extended plans. Apple sucks since Steve Jobs died.
