iOS 7 arrives on cue, people moan because it takes ages to downloadWe were told to expect iOS 7 a couple of days before the arrival of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, and Apple delivered on its promise last night, around 6PM GMT.

Of course, with everyone and his dog scrambling to grab iOS 7 the moment it was released, it’s taking – still taking, in many cases – several hours to download and install. But hey, what did you expect?

I’ve mentioned the obvious rush to get in on the action, and of course iOS 7 is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini and fifth gen iPod touch. Phew! That’s a lot of iDevices.

The other problem is that iOS 7 weighs in at a rather substantial 750MB – three quarters of one entire gigabyte. It’s pretty big, man.

The third problem is that, even with iOS 7 downloaded, you might struggle to have it verified, instead seeing the error message: "Software Update Unavailable". Be patient. You'll get there.

Was iOS 7 worth the wait? How does it feel? Is it the pastel-based nightmare many predicted?

Well, I managed to install iOS 7 last night, so I’ll answer all those questions and more shortly in iOS 7: first impressions (or something to that effect).

Anyone else rocking iOS 7? What do you think?

Just be patient. And in case you managed to download the update but the install fail, disconnect the phone, kill iTunes and then restart itunes and reconncet your device.

ALSO: when given the choice to download only or download and install, pick "download" only. For whatever reason, that always worked better.

Looking forward to Lewis' take on iOS7.
Got some of my own.

Took me just under an hour this morning to download, mind you the restore process takes another hour (I think I have a lot of bloat having gone from 3G through to 4S) oops

Have to say: it's a great update. Yes, the icons are even worse than in photos - so much so that every wallpaper looks wrong.
But the rest??!!! Good. There are shortcomings, missed opportunities etc, but I shall wait for Lewis' 'review'!

But: if you have a compatible device: do it!!!
