This week is pretty massive for Apple, as it sees the release of the long-awaited iPhone 6 in 4.7in and 5.5in (“Plus”) flavours. That’s tomorrow.
In the meantime, the Californians have rolled out their latest software update for iPhones, iPads and the latest iPod touch. Say hello to iOS 8.
iOS 8 is available to download now, and is compatible with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini Retina, and fifth-gen iPod touch. Phew!
If you’re lucky enough to own one of those bad boys, you can install iOS 8 by tapping Settings > Software Update. Our Jan has some handy iOS 8 installation tips right here.
Key iOS 8 features include new editing tools for photographs, support for voice and video messages within iMessage, the ability to hide an in-progress email temporarily while you reference an earlier email (i.e. without having to save a draft), a smart keyboard that predicts what you’re about to type, and Family Sharing for up to six people on one iTunes account.
What else? iOS 8 also introduces interactive notifications (reply without leaving the app you’re in), third-party widgets in Notification Center, Favourite Contacts, and improved Spotlight searches.
The iPhone exclusively gets the all-new Health app, which will obviously play nice with the Apple Watch when it’s eventually released next year, while the iPad boasts fancy new tab management in Safari.
And that's iOS 8. Expect some sort of Top five iOS 8 features type dealio in the coming days. In the meantime, how are you guys finding it?
