iPad 2 - a terrible buy?

I've been weighing up the different iPads (not literally!!) and the more I examine the specs, the less appealing the iPad 2 seems. Am I crazy? Any opinions, guys? :)

I wouldn't buy one now, it's 2 generations old. Then again, the iPad Mini has just been released with identical specs (bar size) to the iPad 2.

How much less is an iPad 2 over an iPad 4?

I wouldn't call it a "terrible" buy. It's cheaper. It does what it does well. Spend more money and then that does something (though not everything) a bit better.
But I'm with matt - get the 4th gen iPad or buy an iPad 2 second-hand. Or buy a Mini for extra portability. None are "terrible" - or they all are if you dislike Apple or iOS...

I'd buy the iPad 4, the display is amazing (really, that and the display on the S2 are the only two screens that have ever truly impressed me) and it's got a lot more power than an iPad 2. I think in the long run you'd be best off getting the newset model.

The "refurb" ipad 2 can be regularly had for £259 Matt, overwise been £299 at times. Mind you the 3s has been £369 this week.

Telling that they didn't keep the 3 as the slightly cheaper back up to the 3s

I wouldn't call it a terrible buy! I use an iPad 2, the 3 didn't tempt me, yeah it's got retina but the battery life put me off I think the 2 is a nice compromise

So get the 4 ! You get retina and I think battery life! Best of both worlds :)

The battery life is exactly the same; 10hrs.

Well supposed to be at least. That's why the 3 (and 4?) got bulkier and heavier.

Precisely, my dad's got a 3. I've borrowed it and I can vouch for it lasting 10hrs.

Yes, and pretty much all reviews of the iPad '3' that I read said, 10 hours - in some circumstances even more. Same goes for the Mini. Cnet claim 'up to 12.5 hours'.
