Just yesterday we were going on about how we'll all have to start talking about the iPad 3 now that the business of launching the iPhone 4S is all wrapped up.
And right on cue we have some news relating to iPad the Third, namely that it's allegedly already heading into production.
Susquehanna Financial analyst Jeff Fidacaro says his contacts in the Apple supply chain have confirmed that the next-generation slate is about to hit production, with Apple looking to start building stock ahead of a predicted Q1 2012 launch.
The analyst's sources are reporting that production numbers for the fourth quarter have been lifted from an expected 11-13 million units to 12-14 million units, and that the adjustment is a result of an early production run of iPad 3s.
“Since our last month supply chain checks we are now seeing 600,000 to one million iPad 3 builds showing up on the plan for the fourth quarter of calendar 2011,” Fidacaro told AllThingsD. “Our previous estimate did not include any iPad 3s.”
While it seems ridiculously early to be going into production given that the expected launch of the iPad 3 is still nearly half a year away, you can forgive Apple for being overly cautious considering the stock shortages that plagued the iPad 2's first couple of months on sale.
