More iPad 3 specs revealed

More iPad 3 specs revealedJeremy Horwitz, editor-in-chief of iLounge, appears to be glued to twitter if the past 24 hours are anything to go by. How does 70+ posts sound? Pretty glued, if you ask me.

Anyway, of those 70-odd, there were a handful of interesting tweets, particularly the ones revealing lots of specs and junk for the imminent iPad 3. Ready?

Firstly, we’ve got upgrades for both iPad cameras. The iPad 3’s front-facing camera will go HD and support FaceTime video chat, while the rear shooter will be "the same as the iPhone 4S's".

The body of the iPad 3 won’t be dramatically different from the iPad 2. Horwitz says: “Think iPad 2 Pro, not a redesign.” The iPad 3 will, however, be around 1mm thicker to accommodate the new parts.

As we’ve been hearing recently, the iPad 2 is expected to stick around at a lower price point. The 16GB model might be priced at around $299-399, but Jeremy speculates that an 8GB iPad 2 at $199 could seriously damage the Amazon Kindle Fire.

As for the date, the iPad 3 isn’t expected to arrive this month, as Apple wouldn’t want to upset those who’ve received an iPad 2 for Christmas. We still reckon it’ll drop in March or April.

If a $199 ipad2 is announced this playbook is going straight on ebay! I love the OS and even like the small size (although they could have squeezed an 8inch screen in) but it has virtually no apps, except angry birds for £5!

A $199 iPad 2 would certainly sell like hotcakes! For £179, I could even see myself buying one. Personally, I don't think it would be possible to go that low though, with the iPad 2's current specs anyway with its 9.7" IPS display, two cameras etc.

Probably could hit that price point if they released an 9" version (with the same resolution so everything still works) and only a front-facing camera, but even then, this price point is a bit of a push for Apple. They don't compete in races to the bottom.

Blizz, we can always remember the iPod Mini, iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle...these give us a glimmer of hope that Apple do recognise there's a lower end to the market :p.

I'd bite Apple's hand off for a sub-£200 iPad 2. It's by far the best tablet out there and I could fund most of that selling my unused TouchPad.
