It’s Digitimes again, baby, and this time they’re talking about the iPhone 5 and iPad 3. According to “industry sources”, both devices are expected to go into production in August, and hit shelves the following month.
Despite the lack of any official info, September is the month most rumours are pointing to for the iPhone 5’s arrival. A possible iPad 3 has been rumoured for months too, despite the fact that the iPad 2 went on sale just three months ago.
The sources suggest that 7-8 million iPhone 5s will ship in Q3. Combined with the iPhone 4, that’d make 24-25 million units total. That’s a lot of iPhones.
That figure is expected to remain just as high in Q4, which would mean over 85 million iPhones shipping in 2011. Holy. Furg.
Over in tablet land, between the three models, iPad shipments could total over 40 million units. Sweet Jebus.
The iPad 3 is expected to be even thinner and lighter than the already-slender iPad 2, with an increased resolution of 250dpi.
An iPad 3 just six months after the iPad 2? We doubt that’d go down too well with iPad 2 owners, but colossal sales at Christmas would be inevitable regardless.
