It’s that time of year when all the usual suspects come out of the woodwork and throw darts at a calendar and tell us when the next generation of iPads is launching.
A potent brew of logic and history dictates it’ll likely be a Tuesday launch, at least. Er, except this here story says it’ll be a Thursday – October 16. Zuh?
The last couple of iPad launches have gone down on a Tuesday, same with the iPhones, so we were quite happy with the suggestion that the new iPads for 2014 would launch on October 21 – give or take a week.
But nope, re/code says it’ll be October 16, a Thursday, and to be fair to the chaps, they recently told us – rightly – that the Apple Watch would show up alongside the iPhone 6 in September, but with a vague ETA of early 2015(ish).
There’s not much else to chew on (other than the mention of new iMacs and OS X Yosemite), but it’s interesting that very few people are talking about the third-generation iPad mini; all focus seems to be on the iPad Air successor.
As we’ve mentioned elsewhere, it’s not clear what Apple might do to improve upon the already-impressive iPad Air (and iPad mini 2), with Touch ID and an even slimmer/lighter design looking likely.
In any case, Apple must surely be putting the finishing touches to its invites. You can get my email address below, under The Mobot Team, Tim.
