iPad Air 2 next month, iPad mini 3 in 2015?

iPad Air 2 next month, iPad mini 3 in 2015?Considering we’re almost certainly on the verge of meeting a new iPad or new iPads, we haven’t heard a great deal about Apple’s next generation of tablet-shaped goodness.

Here, a source from out east reckons the iPad Air 2 will land next month, followed by the iPad mini 3 in early 2015. Hmm.

That’s the story according to Taiwanese-language Commercial Times, relayed by Apple Insider, and with credit going to “sources familiar with the matter”.

It comes as a bit of a surprise, considering October 2012 saw the dual launch of the iPad 4 and first-generation iPad mini, while the iPad Air and iPad mini 2 (Retina) touched down as a pair in October 2013.

As such, it was widely expected that the inevitable iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 would arrive together next month.

Indeed, this whole thing is uncannily similar to rumours last year that suggested the iPad mini 2 would be delayed on account of its Retina display. That turned out to be nonsense.

And more recently, it was proposed that the iPhone 6 Plus might be months behind the smaller iPhone 6, something that again turned out to be a load of old codswallop.

Yeah, so, you’ll forgive us for taking this with a pinch of salt. For what it’s worth, the sources say an iPad Pro will arrive next year, too. It’s like they have some sort of crystal ball. HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS?

Am I the only one who notices a real lull in the tablet arena?
I think something big will have to occur to shake things up again.

And race to big spec bumps aside - what has happened? The Note tablets are still the only ones to offer added functionality. And that is hindered by the absence of great Android tablet apps. Where are the great video editors? Where are the apps to make use of 10in +, dual-windows; of 3GB RAM and this and that??? And when all flagships are now the size of an eReader?

Well I think theres a lull, but only because everyones expecting a new ipad sometime soon, think Apple still has the stranglehold on this market because all of the Android tablets so far just have a "me too" theme and dont really add anything new to what the ipad brings, and arguably take away by having a much worse app selection/formatting

There are some interesting tablets coming, like the Dell Venue 8 7000 and the smart camera but like a lot of features on tablets, theyd be a better option on a phone rather than a tablet (taking pictures using a tablet is a sin) . The Nvidia shield tablet is interesting, but TBH I think the old design was better and that wasnt really a tablet, plus you need a fully specced PC to make it really work

All true - but I think even iPad mania cooled off significantly. Had to happen... I'm not expecting much from an iPad Air... Can't see how it could get faster. I don't want thinner. They'll add some new layout for native apps in landscape, but so what.
I'd be surprised if it offered any compelling reason to not buy an Air "1" instead. But it'll sell. Though: considering the success of the Minis, I wonder why they wouldn't update that one first? Christmas sales... tighter pockets etc...

Just had a look at that Dell thing. Looks interesting. But IN AN 8in TAB? How weird?

Yeah its a little odd, ive read one proposal for it to be linked with a 3d printer and then you woudl be able to 3D print objects you take pictures of (as it can judge the depth of the object) which is really cool, but still doesnt answer the question of why an 8" tablet? On a phone it would be even more portable. ah well
