How can you tell which iPad it is?

Say you buy an iPad from eBay, how can you tell... once you've got it... whether it's an iPad 2, iPad 3 or iPad 4? I know the iPad Air is a lot thinner and lighter, but how can you tell the iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad 4 apart?

You can go into Settings > General > About and find the model number. You should be able to tell the difference between an iPad 2 and 3rd/4th gen iPad due to the Retina display in the latter two and the lightning connector on the 4th gen.

Original iPads have no camera, iPad 2s don't have a retina display, the iPad 3 has a 30 pin connector and a retina display, the iPad 4 has a lightning connector and a retina display and the iPad Air is a different shape to all of the others and has a lightning connector.

Or you could look in the settings, but that's boring haha :p.
