Earlier in the week, I broke many a Mobo-heart when I relayed the news that the iPad mini 2 with Retina display might be delayed till the beginning of space year 2014AD. In a Darth Vader Star Wars Episode 3 voice: NOOOOOOOOOOO!
Well dry those tears, bucko, as the latest whispers suggest we’re back on track for an October iPad mini 2 release, just three months from now and in plenty of time for Christmas and that. Yas!
That’s the good word according to our favourite hit-and-miss rumourmongers, DigiTimes, with credit going to anonymous “industry sources”.
Specifically, we’re told that LG Display will shift 2-3 million units per month in preparation of the iPad mini 2’s October release.
It’s a similar story with the fifth gen iPad too, supposedly, with LG Display pumping out many millions of units.
According to the sources, the iPad 5 will have a resolution of 2048 x 1536. If that sounds familiar, that’s because the same resolution is found on the iPad 3 and iPad 4.
The big change on the iPad 5 is expected to be a spanking new slim, lightweight design with reduced bezel, more akin to the iPad mini than the iPad 4.
Apple released this many iDevices in the first half of 2013: none. But things are set to get hot and heavy soonish, with the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 being joined by the iPhone 5S and possibly the Apple iWatch.
