Now that the iPad mini is finally here, we can take a breather from the incessant rumour mongering, right? Wrong! It’s time to talk iPad mini 2. You love it.
Prepare to be this much stunned: not at all. See, iPad mini 2 specs are tipped to include – surprise, surprise – a Retina display.
The news comes from Chinese site DoNews, crediting only the sleuthing abilities of one of their reporters.
Said reporter has learned that AU Optronics is expected to produce Retina iPad mini 2 displays in the second half of 2013. Yeah, an annual launch cycle would make sense. Though try telling that to the fourth gen iPad.
The iPad mini – somewhat disappointingly – has the same resolution as the iPad 2, so that’s 1024 x 768. Applied across the 7.9in display, that’s a modest PPI of 163.
The Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7, on the other hand, have higher resolutions (1280 x 800) on smaller displays (7in), yielding 216 PPI.
However, the iPad mini 2, according to DoNews, will crank the resolution to 2048 x 1536 (same as the third and fourth gen iPads), with an eye-melting 324 PPI.
Great stuff. We're keeping our fingers crossed for daily iPad mini 2 rumours for the next 300-odd days. Stay tuned.
